Zoning for Housing & Housing for All
What's happening now:
The City of Alexandria is bundling efforts to address our housing crisis by combining two initiatives: Zoning for Housing, and Housing for All.
On September 5 staff presented their recommendations to a joint session of City Council and the Planning Commission. The policy proposals are available online now, and you can read our response here.
The proposals are a strong first step, but there's also a lot of room for improvement to ensure Alexandria's future as a welcoming, affordable, and sustainable community.
You can help! Sign up to write a letter supporting more impactful reforms, and RSVP to attend upcoming outreach events!
Launched in 2019, Zoning for Housing has been a work-in-progress for years. The final round of community input and public hearings will occur throughout Fall, 2023. RSVP now to attend with fellow YIMBYs and advocate for more homes in Alexandria:

After two years of public engagement and hours of public comment, on June 27 Council unanimously approved the Advisory Group's recommendations for a safer, more sustainable, and more equitable Duke Street - a victory for YIMBYs, our partners, and all Alexandrians.
The project has advanced to the design phase.
